Public Works Building Roof Repair
The Town of Stanley is now accepting bids for the repair of the roof on the Stanley Public Works Building located at 878 Marksville Road. Bids will be received by the Town of Stanley until 5 p.m. February 13, 2013, and bids will be opened at the Town Council meeting 7:30 p.m., February 13, 2013. The repairs will consist of replacing old shingles, all damaged [plywood and replacing approximately 100 feet of wooden overhang with new.
Interested parties may pick up bid documents at the Stanley Town Office, 278 East Main Street, during normal business hours. Bids shall be marked “Roof Bid”: and addressed to the Town of Stanley, Attn. Terry A. Pettit, Manager, P.O. TOWN OF STANLEY AWARDED SAFE ROUTE TO SCHOOL GRANT
Town Manager Terry A. Pettit has announced that the Town of Stanley has been awarded a Safe Route to School Grant in the amount of $75,967.00.
The Virginia Department of Transportation awarded the funding which will be used for speed feedback signs, speed reduction and pedestrian crossing improvements on Aylor Grubbs Avenue between the Stanley Elementary School and East Main Street. Mr. Pettit advised that construction should start mid summer.

Stanley Drinking Water Wins another First Place Award
The Town of Stanley has some of the best drinking water not only in the State of Virginia but in the entire country. The Town’s water won first place in the Virginia Rural Water Taste Contest in held in February earlier this year in Roanoke and this is the Town’s third first place win in the past ten years. The Town won first place in 2006 and 2010 and also won second place in 2008 and 2011.
In 2010 the Town was awarded the fifth best tasting water in the entire nation and a sample will be entered into the same contest later on this year. The Town of Stanley’s Mayor, Council and town staff takes great pride in providing its citizens with one of the best tasting, clearest and sweetest-smelling water possible.
